Understanding the Procedure
Dental crowns can be used to restore dental implants, giving them an attractive and natural-looking finish. In this case, once your implant has osseointegrated, or fused to the bone, a crown can be put in place to complete your smile and improve your appearance.
After root canal therapy, dental crowns can also be placed to protect the remaining healthy tooth structure and restore its natural function. When the root canal procedure is complete and the tooth root has been repaired, a portion of your enamel will be removed to make room for the crown, and the restoration will be cemented to your tooth.
Lastly, these restorations can be used to enhance the aesthetics of a tooth. The damaged pieces of chipped, broken, or discolored teeth will be removed (or in some cases, built up) to make room for the crown that will be cemented in.
Dr. May will check the fit of the dental crowns to assess your bite and jaw structure. We will schedule a follow-up appointment and send you home with proper care instructions and tips to increase the longevity of your smile.
Types of Crowns
Crowns can be made entirely of gold or porcelain-fused-to-gold substrate to optimize both strength and beauty. Thanks to new innovations, Dr. May and the team have access to amazing technology. We now offer crowns made entirely from ceramic and porcelain that provide flawless aesthetic improvements to your smile.
When using dental crowns to restore dental implants, temporary crowns may be placed on the abutment during osseointegration. Permanent crowns are made in a professional dental laboratory and take a few wakes to be made. These long-lasting restorations are then connected to a dental implant or cemented to an existing tooth.
